My Story
My Journey – and Why I’m Walking for Fight Bladder Cancer
On 23 December 2024, I received news that stopped me in my tracks: I had been diagnosed with bladder cancer.
It came as a huge shock. Like many people, I’d never really thought about bladder cancer or recognised the symptoms for what they were. Thankfully, it was caught early, and after successful treatment I received a clean bill of health at my one‑year cystoscopy in January this year. With a bit of luck, I won’t need to see my consultant again for another 12 months.
As I step into 2026, I want to turn that experience into something positive.
I’m raising awareness and funds for Fight Bladder Cancer—an incredible charity that supports those living with the disease and works tirelessly to educate people about the signs and symptoms, so more cancers can be caught early, just like mine was.
The Challenge
To do this, I’ve set myself a slightly mad challenge (possibly brought on by too many red wines on New Year’s Eve…):
Walking 125 miles in 5 days
from Oxford (The Kassam Stadium) to London (Millwall – The Den)
along the Thames Path.
That’s the equivalent of five consecutive marathons—on foot.
Training has already taught me one thing very clearly: walking long distances day after day is not easy. Five marathons in five days is going to hurt—but every step is worth it if it helps raise awareness and support for others facing this disease.
The journey will finish in the best possible way: watching the mighty Yellows in their final game of the season, and—hopefully—seeing the boys secure another year in the Sky Bet Championship.
Why Your Support Matters
If sharing my story, or any form of sponsorship, or joining me for the day helps prompt even one person to get checked sooner—or helps Fight Bladder Cancer continue their vital work—then it will all have been worth it.
Thank you for reading, supporting, and, if you’re able, donating.
